Urban residential energy conservation is a core part in the field of building energy efficiency. Because of vast in territory, the climatic conditions and economic level are widely different in different regions of China. The Energy-saving strategies and technical level are also diverse from each other. Energy-saving means of the northern region have been very mature among them, while The hot summer and cold winter zone on which the author is ready to conduct research are yet to establish a rounded technology system. The original intention of writing this article is based on the actual situation that residential energy-saving effect and the improvement of quality of indoor thermal environment aren’t obvious. The author put forward that indoor thermal comfort level should be the basic objective to do energy-saving design and a completed set of urban residential energy-saving design mode should be established. The view that thermal comfort level be the basic objective to do energy-saving design is an important innovation for this article to carry out residential energy conservation research. Chapter One of the article discusses the necessity and significance to carry out this study systematically. To prove that the author lists a series of research status both at home and abroad and then illustrates the specific aspects of the research work.In Chapter Two the author gives evaluation of pros and cons about thermal comfort standards at home and abroad and then choose appropriate standard and make the temperature interval certain for the hot summer and cold winter zone.Chapter Three is the actual test link for urban dwellings. The author has done comprehensive comparison for energy-saving and traditional dwellings in three aspects about indoor thermal environment, external walls and roofs. Based on the actual data and building construction, preliminary analysis about energy-saving potential has been raised.Chapter Four is the simulation test link by means of software. To predict the result accurately the author gives variables to regulate for each part of the envelope at first. And then based on the principle that do things from simple to complex and easy things first, the single room model is simulated at first and following which is the Jiugongge and typical residential model. At the end of this chaper the design strategy for each part of envelope has been concluded. From the analysis of the previous chapter, the author proposes a set of design patterns including the best and economic design strategies which are applicable on different floors and orientations in the same building in Chapter Five. Through the implementation of these strategies the thermal comfort evaluation is carried out by using thermal comfort standard. According to the conclusions of the whole article the author makes new plans and requirements for future energy-saving design in the last page.
