Static var compensator (SVC) as a kind of dynamic reactive power compensation device can flexibly adjust the system reactive power, therefore been widely used in today’s power system. However, the impact on the power system stability of SVC still lacks depth study. SVC specific applications in the power system, such as how to choose the best installation location and compensation capacity is still a lack of quantitative methods more effective. For the present study also mainly stay in the SVC compensate used in metallurgy, steel and other special loads, and mainly confined to the simulation and theoretical analysis or algorithm design, there is little analysis of the actual power of the combined, few combined analysis of the actual grid.Therefore, this thesis in connection with the above problems, use PSASP software built EPRI-36bus system, by comparing several existing methods of choose the site of SVC. Summed up the approach based on a comprehensive model to determine the system’s weak node, and determine the best installation site of SVC in the system that according to this method. By comparing active and reactive power margin index changes and voltage margin indicator that before and after the system is installed SVC, explained the role of SVC for improving static stability of the power system. Then make time-domain simulation for36-node system, observed when the system suddenly happened phase short circuit fault, load shedding and other major disturbances, SVC role for improving the dynamic stability of the power system. Then using small interfering Stabilization Act, analysis by the characteristic values of the system, research the power angle stability of the system, by study the ordinary SVC is no use for improve the system damping. Therefore, improve the original model of SVC, demonstrated the improved SVC can improve the system damping.Finally use PSASP software built the Nanjing actual220kV Grid, And use the integrated model method to determine the weak power grid nodes of Nanjing. Analysis the effects of SVC to voltage stability for static and dynamic of Nanjing grid. Clarifies the SVC applications in real power in the city.
