Train wheel is an important part for the train’s moving. The parameters of train wheel diameter and diameter difference between two coaxial wheels is directly related to train safety. In the developing countries, many of them have completed the dynamic detection system for the train wheels parameters.However, the diameters are still detected manually in our countries,which is low in detection efficiency, long in the detection period, and is vulnerable to human factors’influence. With the rapid development of high-speed railway, the existing detection methods cannot meet the requirement. Therefore, it is very urgent to develop research of in orbit train wheel detection system, which can detect the parameters in a dynamic, non-contact, high-precision and high-efficiency manner.In this paper,the in orbit dynamic detection method is achieved through the use of two2D laser displacement sensor cooperatively working with each otherThe laser displacement sensor clamping platform was designed. It can enable laser displacement sensor to be installed and positioned precisely by using the turntable and lift structure.By using the damping devices and cantilever lift mechanism, the laser displacement sensor is not directly in contact with the rail embankment, which educe the effect of vibration generated when the train passes on the measurement result to the maximum extent.The design of hardware and software of laser displacement sensor data collection system, turntable, hardware and software of lifts stepper motor control system is discussed. Interactive interface is developed by using Lab Windows/CVI, which enables the operating person to set view, store and query the system parameters.The model was established and simulated by using MATLAB; through the analysis of mechanical system and the error of the optical system, it is verified that the measurement method can reach the train wheel diameter measurement accuracy.The entire system is comprehensive system that combines the knowledge of optical, mechanical, electrical and other multi-disciplinary knowledge. Sensor technology, signal testing technology, digital signal processing technology are used to achieve the detection of train wheel parameters. This is not only meet the required detection accuracy for train wheel, but also reduced the measurement time and improve the detection efficiency.
