Currently, the smart grid and its underpinning technologies have been considered paramount important to reshape current power system infrastructure and operational paradigm. As one of the key areas of smart grid development and strategies in Chinese national power grid, smart electricity consumption management aims to optimally utilize power energy with improved efficiency. In compatible with the smart energy consumption management framework released by the national power grid, we attempted to design and implement the domestic power consumption device and the associated algorithms. The designed system can monitor the power consumption and parameters (including instantaneous current, voltage and active power) of individual electrical devices through adopting smart electricity sockets in a real-time fashion, but also be able to control the devices (e.g. on or off states) by taking the consideration of real-time electricity prices into account. Through such interactions between the sockets and terminal along with the intelligent algorithmic solutions, the domestic power energy consumption management can be achieved.In our work, the proposed solution has three parts:smart electricity socket, intelligent interactive terminal, and the remote monitoring center. As the implementation with the response on lower power price and the data acquisition of the system, smart electricity sockets which are directly connected to the electrical equipments can transmits the measurements by the use of nRF905wireless RF module to the intelligent interactive terminal, waiting for the command information of intelligent interactive terminal in real time. In the remote monitoring center, the acquired data can be further analyzed and issue the control strategy to the interactive terminals. In reality, the domestic customers can implement the remote control of electrical equipments through the embedded human machine interface according to different considerations, e.g. the real-time electricity prices and power loads. The intelligent interactive terminal can transmit the information through the RF module of the nRF905to smart electricity socket which is connected with the domestic electrical equipments. As a result, the electrical equipments will response after the smart electricity socket has analyzed the control information. In addition, according to the electricity information and loads, remote monitoring center could predict the future short-term electricity prices to make the best use of the power energy in a cost-effective way through the designed algorithm, then send the prediction result to the intelligent interactive terminal, and make the corresponding control decision of electrical equipments.Finally, the functionalities of the proposed domestic smart electricity consumption device has been evaluated and assessed through the test-bed. The result demonstrated its effectiveness and the technical benefits which can meet the need of smart power consumption management in the future.
