Being completely different from the oriental architectural styles, the foundation of modern architectural style is the western traditional architecture. With the development of society, people began to have a strong interest in ancient Chinese traditional architectural forms. Understanding and full in-depth analysis of traditional architecture, systematic reference to the advantages of it, and to apply to the architectural practice under construction, is the trend of architectural design. Because of the shortage of energy, the increasingly serious environmental pollution, passive design strategies of traditional architecture in the low technological conditions have caused concern of the construction industry insight, how to maximize the benefits from the advantages of traditional architecture, and to achieve complete reunification of the antique building under construction from external form to the internal architectural concept, is becoming one of the hotspots of the contemporary construction industry concerns. This article have combed western Sichuan traditional dwellings, a branch of the Chinese traditional architecture systematically, summarized the passive design strategies, and applied it to the antique buildings under construction------Pingle Ancient Town project, combining theory with practice. The second chapter, with Chengdu as the main reference, through the analysis of several important elements of geographical and climatic conditions, has done a meticulous combing of the characteristics of geography and climate in western Sichuan. The third chapter analyzes concrete construction of residential areas in western Sichuan, mainly from the overall layout of the building to the monomer structure on Chuanximinju gives the overall outline. The fourth chapter in the first two chapters of analysis of the geographic and climatic conditions and the traditional residential structure, systematic study of passive design strategies of the western Sichuan traditional houses------the local climate adaptability, mainly through Chuanximinju ventilation, moisture-proof, shade, and environment integration of four main aspects, on the basis of last, summarize the traditional houses in some passive design strategies of merit. The fifth chapter of the article is practice theory, is the most important part of this paper. Through the first four chapters on the analysis of the western Sichuan construction and passive design strategies of research, it is applied to the modern archaize building projects-pingsha fall wild goose, summarizes the advantages and disadvantages existing in the process of applying, provides reference for related designers when facing the same issues, and contributes to the study of western Sichuan residence, also for keeping and creating regional culture.
