Evaluation Of The Chengdu Plain Agricultural Landscape Aesthetics

Agricultural landscape is one of the earliest appeared and most widely distributed landscapes around the world, as well as a frontier domain of scientific research in the field of landscape. It is a kind of special and integrated landscape, which is both affected by conditions of natural environmental and agricultural environment, such as rural history, agricultural culture and lifestyle of farmers. Aesthetic evaluation of agricultural landscape is a way to evaluate the agricultural landscape of a region via questionnaire and rating according to appropriate aesthetic evaluation system.Due to the lack of time in urban and rural integration, the construction is still under exploratory stage, and the rural planning has just started. As a result, we are short of research on the aesthetic evaluation of agricultural landscape, and even less research on that about Chengdu. It is of positive social significance and necessity to research on aesthetic evaluation because it is conducive to improve the existing building community and to guide future construction of new rural community.This article firstly establishes a preliminary aesthetics evaluation indicator system of agricultural landscape of Chengdu through questionnaires, interviews and other forms, based on related literature and theoretical research, development and characteristics of culture of Chengdu Plain farming, and contemporary building practices. After that a final evaluation indicator system of aesthetics is founded by improving the system according to the data of questionnaire and results of factor analysis. The final aesthetics evaluation indicator system contains six elements, which are water, vegetation, buildings, farmland, road, and the others, at the primary level; and eighteen elements at the secondary level, which are the location of water, water area, water quality, the number of plants, plant color, plant type, topography, building color, construction quality, area of farmland, farmland color, road quality, road sight, road integration degree, artificial landscape features, vision, landscape integrity, and vivid landscapes.Afterwards a complete aesthetics evaluation system of agricultural landscape is obtained along with the weight of each indicator by using principal component analysis.Finally, Quanshui village of Ande town and Zhanqi village of Tangchang town in Chengdu are selected as typical cases to put the established system and indicators into use. Evaluation on individually indicators comprehensive is processed by using objective quantitative research as the main line. At the same time, study about objective agricultural landscape pattern, and questionnaire survey about changes to farmers’ production activities in recent three years are used as supplementary in order to analyze problems during urban and rural integration in Quanshui village and Zhanqi village respectively. Merits of agricultural landscape in two villages are analyzed by comparing scores of the agricultural landscape evaluation. Some improvement suggestions are also presented combined with aesthetic factors.
