As a new type of AC-AC inverter, matrix converter has many advantages, such as achieving four-quadrant operation by controlling two-way flow of energy, modulating sinusoidal input and output currents, adjusting the input power factor arbitrarily, no need of intermediate DC link energy storage and so on. Therefore, it has been occupied a very important position in Power Electronics and Electrical Drives disciplines. With the rapid development of the power device manufacturing technology, microelectronics and control theory, matrix converter has exceeded the original concept, becoming a large class of converters. With the great potential for development, its application has been extended to areas such as AC speed, power compensation and space power and so on.In this paper, the virtual equivalent AC-DC-AC structure of matrix converter is analyzed based on the introducing of the topology of matrix converter and commutation mode. And an algorithm of double space vector modulation, which combines algorithms of the input currents space vector modulation and the output voltage space vector modulation, is derived. By using this algorithm, the maximum voltage modulation ratio of0.866can be achieved, sinusoidal input current can be obtained, and the input power factor can be adjusted both positive and negative. All these advantages make this algorithm to become one of the major modulation algorithms in researching of matrix converter.The mathematical model of PMSM is derived and direct torque control technology of PMSM is deeply studied, based on the introducing of its structure and characteristics. The power clean, high-performance "green" AC drive system is built by combining the matrix converter, permanent magnet synchronous motor and direct torque control technology. And a model of motor control system is established and simulated using MATLAB/SIMULINK.Finally, the main circuit and control circuit of the experimental prototype constituted of IGBT bidirectional switch are introduced. Besides, the choosing of components, CPLD and DSP code of control systems and the production of PCB panels are completed.
