With the development in power electronic technology and the increasingly maturation of high-power AC motor frequency technology, the ship electric propulsion system becomes the development trend of future ship power plant because of its multiple advantages. There must be sensors in high-performance AC servo systems to obtain accurate rotor feedback signals. However, considering the actual operation situation and the difficulties in installation and maintenance of sensors, sensors are not suitable for ship propulsion PMSM vector control systems. Therefore, there is both academic value and application prospect to study the ship electric propulsion PMSM sensorless vector control method.At the beginning of this paper, the mathematical model of ship electric propulsion system is set up, this model consists of the propulsion PMSM model, propeller torque characteristics and ship motion models. Meanwhile, a propulsion system model composed of vector control theory, coordinate transformation and space vector control method etc is proposed based on Matlab/Simulink.Furthermore, considering the chattering in estimation of rotor’s position and speed based on conventional sliding-mode observer (SMO), weight sliding-mode observer and adaptive sliding-mode observer(ASMO)is proposed in this paper. Along with high-frequency filtering algorithm, a more accurate observer is obtained, of which the concomitant is suppression of buffeting.Finally, the electrical propulsion vector control simulation model is designed by combining hull-propeller model, propulsion PMSM sensorless vector control model and ASMO. The simulation results indicate that the proposed adaptive sliding-mode observer is both effectiveness and superiority in ship propulsion PMSM sensorless vector control systems under various operating conditions.The proposed sensorless vector control method based on ASMO enriches the theories of ship propulsion PMSM sensorless vector control. At the same time, it lays certain foundation on intensive studes and engineering practice.
