Multi‐disc wet clutch is one of the key component of transmission system, it plays an important role in the transmission of ship, vehicle and construction machinery. To guarantee that it has good work performance and be effective to solve the problem of thermal failure on the multi‐disc wet clutch. Experts and scholars at home and abroad do some optimization and reliability research to the wet clutch and have obtained certain research results, but how to solve the problem of thermal failure is still a large task to wet clutch.Whether the friction plate’s resistance can meet the clutch using demand is one of the important indexes of friction plate using performance evaluation, and quality of it directly affects the multi‐disc wet clutch working reliability and stability. If choosing the friction material is not suitable or the groove shape on the surface of the friction plate is designed unreasonable, will reduce the heat resistant performance of the friction plate. thus increases the likelihood of wet clutch thermal failure, so the multi‐disc wet clutch can’t work reliably and stably.Taking multi‐disc wet clutch as the research object, do some theoretical research, simulation analysis and parameter optimization on the friction plate’s heat resistance and heat resistance’s influence on the wet clutch working process. The main research content of thispaper as follows:1. Combined with the structure and working principle of wet clutch, from wet clutch friction plate material, surface shape, cooling oil’s properties and flow state of wet clutch, and so on, to analyze the influence factors of friction plate heat resistance, and friction plate heat resistance’s selection principle is given.2. According the related parameters of a heavy vehicle and the working principle of multi‐disc wet clutch, speed difference of wet clutch, working oil pressure, heat flux, viscous torque, friction work and rough torque can be do theory analysis and build mathematical modeling. Among them, in order to study the heat and temperature how to affect the friction plate using performance, Analyzed in detail of the mechanism of the friction work, influence factors and calculation method.3. According to the previous theory research and mathematical model, we do some simulation research to the working process of multi‐disc wet clutch by using simulation software, simulation module mainly include secondary part speed difference, sliding friction work, change of lubricating oil film, rough viscous torque, rough torque, etc. By changing the input parameters, Study that the various factors which have influence on friction plate’s resistance, how to influence the friction plate’s using performance.4. Parameters of the commercial vehicle’s wet clutch were optimized based on friction heat resistance, and the optimization tool is the fmincon function in MATLAB optimization box. Ensured the reliability and stability of wet clutch, this optimization effectively reduced the temperature while the wet clutch working. This model will support theoretical basis for the research and develop of multi‐disc wet clutch.The content of this paper will have a certain reference value and practical significance for solving the problem of thermal failure of the multi‐disc wet clutch.
