With the development of the project that power transmission from west to east, the power grid interconnected has become the development trend of the future. At the same time, the power grid stability problem is more highlighted. Though some researches have witnessed in some special work environment or when the system meets some parameters, chaos oscillation phenomenon will be produced in the power system. It is harm to the interconnection grid stability and security. More and more people pay attention to chaos phenomenon which is a new field. It has harm aspect and applications, which are relatively frontier research topic. The main research of this thesis includes following sections:1. At first, this paper first introduces the formation and development of chaos theory and then summarizes three different definitions of chaos. Chaos experts summed up the eight basic chaotic features followed by a related experimental study. Chaotic phenomena in some systems classified as hazardous, so it summarizes the common method of chaos control and outlines the current research.2. The object of this paper is the power system, so it further introduces the basic concepts of the chaotic phenomena of the power system. It first summarizes five chaotic mathematical models of power system. And then simulates two systems of them to verify whether there is a existence of chaotic phenomenon. Finally, it introduces the strengths and weaknesses of the existing power system chaos control method.3. For chaos in the power system of second-order phenomenon, this article uses a combined strategy of linear feedback method and fuzzy sliding mode variable structure theory, put forward a new controller system. Based on simulation, the system changed from irregular chaotic motion to stable periodic motion.4. For chaotic phenomena of fourth-order power system, this paper designed chaos controller from two different angles which were the tridiagonal matrix stability principle and the way that combined adaptive control method and LaSalle invariant set theory. The simulation results can be seen two controllers are able to successfully suppress the chaotic behavior, but adaptive control method is more good on respects of control effects, control time and robustness.Through this research can be found in the chaos is controlled, for chaotic phenomena affect the stability of the power system should take appropriate control strategies to suppress the dynamical behavior. The results of this research made a contribution to the stability of power system, and the design of the controller has some practical value.
