With the development of the construction industry, there are more and more large-scale composite commercial buildings. Each commercial areas often contact together through the corridors around of the atrium and forming a larger connected space in these buildings. In the commercial buildings with atrium, a lot of fires occurs in the commercial areas which connected with corridors. The design of its smoke control system in fire rooms, corridors and atrium is very important for the fire safety of these buildings.The research objection at present is the commercial buildings with atrium.This paper refered to the requirements for smoke control system in the domestic current codes, and the status of oversea and domestic research of smoke control system in atrium building, combined with the conventional design form of smoke control system in engineering practice, then work out the suitable combination mode of smoke control system. Collected the dates such as temperature and visibility under the different combination modes of room, corridor and atrium through real fire test method when business shop connected to the corridors on fire, then compared their smoke exhaust effect. Calculated the smoke exhaust effect of each combination modes by the fire dynamics simulation software, and compared with the measured values, thus verify the reliability of fire simulation work by FDS software in the process of performance-based design for fire safety.The smoke exhaust effect of the atriums used natural smoke exhaust mode or mechanical smoke exhaust mode, the corridors used mechanical smoke exhaust mode or natural smoke exhaust mode, the fire rooms used mechanical smoke exhaust mode or natural smoke exhaust mode, the rooms and corridors with the mechanical smoke volume increased or decreased, the corridors setted smoke-proof pendant wall or not are contrastively analyzed.Results showed that the smoke control system works best when all the atrium, corridor and fire room have used mechanical smoke exhaust mode. By the present study, numerical reference on design of smoke control system in the commercial buildings with atrium is provided for engineering.
