With the growing scarcity of oil. energy and environmental problem has become increasingly prominent. Due to limitations of battery technology,electric vehicle can not be applied widespread. Hybrid electric vehicle become the preferred solution to this problem. Because the country get strong support to hybrid electric bus in the field of public transport, now the hybrid electric bus develop more and more quickly and25domestic demonstration cities have extensively use hybrid electric bus, such as Zhuzhou, Changsha, Hangzhou, Chengdu, Kunming, Haikou. In this paper, a detailed analysis of the structure and the advantages and disadvantages of series, parallel, series-parallel hybrid and planetary gear-type hybrid vehicle was completed, especially the operation principle of planetary gear-type hybrid electric vehicle.Through analysis and comparison of a variety of planetary gear mechanism programs, combining with the running characteristics of hybrid electric bus, this paper proposes a double row planetary gear type which is a the most suitable for hybrid electric bus, completed the design and calculation of parameters of double planetary gear mechanism, such as, the characteristic parameters, the number of teeth and module and relevant parameters. The match and calculation of parameters of powertrain system which included the engine, generator, drive motor, energy storage system were also completed.Compared the advantages and disadvantages of various electric vehicle simulation software in current market, ultimately we selected Advisor based on Matlab/Simulink simulation software platform as electric vehicle simulation software. On the basis of the secondary development of the Advisor, model building and simulation of a double row planetary gear type hybrid electric bus was completed. Results show that the double raw planetary gear type hybrid electric bus has more more excellent fuel economy than serial and parallel hybrid electric bus. But after a series and parallel simulation fuel consumption compared with the actual fuel consumption, the simulation results prove Advisor has the higher fuel consumption than actual fuel consumption. Finally, the paper analyzes the possible causes of the error and predict the actual fuel consumption correctedly.
