The design of retaining wall relates to the soil material, its Parameters has variability that can’t be considered by using the method of safety factor. Research by using limit state design method can consider the variability of soil matrial, calculate the reliability of retaining wall of the shape L, Establishing the design functions of limit state equation to guide the design and the construction of retaining wall, and lay the foundation for modifying the code of railway.In this pape, This paper is part of the research on Railway subgrade Retaining structure limit state method by Ministry of Railways.The research of retaining wall of the shape L which is widely used in retaining walls of railway is based on the limit state design method. the analyses are emphasis on the following contents:(1) Summarizing the current situation of domestic and foreign,Raising the research goal and the significance, using the limit state design method will be the direction and trend of development.(2) Providing the design idea and the the research contents of retaining wall. of the shape L based on limit state design method, establishing the design expression.(3) Finding the main random variables by sensibility analysis in the retaining wall design based on reliability, such as unit weight of soil,internal friction angle of soil, baseal coefficient of fricyion, giving their Statistical parameters.(4) Establishing the functions of limited state equation in retaining wall through the Calculation equation of the design code of railway.Calculating the reliability of retaining wall under the existing design code by writing a Monte-Carlo calculation program, analysis and provide the objective reliability.(5) Discussing on the partial coefficient. Chosing the general separation to calculate the resistance and load partial coefficient, and establish the design equation, check and analysis.
