At present, engineering structure design is changing to limit state method, which is based on reliability theory. However, we still use the safety factor design method, which is not only detrimental to communications with foreign counterparts, but also is not conducive to the promotion and application of our railway technology in the international arena. So the domestic design codes transition is of great significance. In view of this situation, this thesis made a systematic research on limit state design method of gravity retaining wall under special conditions. The main research contents of this paper are shown as follows:1.The limit state equations of anti-sliding stability, anti-overturning stability and the base bearing capacity of gravity retaining wall under two special conditions in the earthquake region and submerged region were established.2.Computer programs were wrote to calculate the reliability index of retaining walls under two special conditions in the earthquake region and submerged region and the reliability indexes of anti-sliding, anti-overterning and the base bearing capacity of retaining walls under different design conditions has been calculated and analyzed. The target reliability indexes of anti-sliding, anti-overterning and the base bearing capacity were suggested.3. The "general separation method" was adopted in the calculation of partial coefficients. And the calculation results have been checked.4. The limit state design expressions of the gravity retaining wall under special conditions in the earthquake region and submerged region were formed.
