As one of the three most frequently happened types of road accident, alongside with head on collision and side-swipe collision, run-off-road accident has been concerned from researchers both national wide and worldwide, as consequences of high frequency and serious severities. In view of the background, based on the accident data of Michigan in2009, the analysis of highway off road accident is undertaken in this project.Initially, the original accident data is processed and cleaned, consequently, qualified data is formed through data preparation in this project. Then, based on the data which is already available, the general characteristics of freeway accidents and the time-space distribution of freeway accidents are revealed by applying statistics analysis method; In addition, the factors which significantly relevant with run-off-road accidents are revealed via a series of statistical analysis. Proceed by correlation test analysis between the each potential causes of all types of accidents, and also between the potential causes and run-off-road accidents, the factors which significantly related with run-off-road accidents but have weak correlation with other factors of accidents are revealed. Then, logistic regression models are built with the factors which already found, and estimate the parameters in these models in SPSS, testing the fitness of these models, adopt the logistic model which has the most accurate expected value as the final model.Based on the analysis above, it could be concluded that factors of people, vehicle, road and environment have impacts on freeway run-off-road accident. Specifically, the main causes of off road accidents are from four perspectives:from driver’s perspective, the crucial factors are gender, age, drinking condition, sick and speeding; from vehicle’s perspective, flaws of tyres factor are the main cause of off road accident; from road perspective, road alignment factor is the main cause of off road accident; inclement weather is the main cause from environmental perspective. According to the conclusions which are drawn in the project, the measures on off road accident prevention are also given in this dissertation.
