The development of Large-scale industrial production in modern society brings a potential risk of catastrophic accidents when it provides lots of products.In order to improve the reliability and safety of the industrial production,functional safety has become a hot researching area. Functional safety means that any random failures, system failures or common cause failure will not result in a fault of security System that causes personal injury or death, environmental damage and loss of equipment or property.That also means that the safety function of devices of control systems should be implemented correctly whether the devices is in normal or fault. A wide meaning of safety function is that it should ensure that the systems and the devices are not failure and ensure the reliability of systems and equipments. Safety Instrumented system protects the fault of systems and devices not to bring any accident. Reliability Design is used to provide the reliability of systems and equipments.Now reliability and safety instrumented system have become the focus of functional safety.Reliability is applied in many areas, such as large industrial systems,instruments system,multi-sensor system and safety Instrumented System.Reliability includes the reliability design in systems and reliability analysis which is used to evaluate the reliability of systems.Reliability has different meaning in different applications. In industrial systems, reliability means reducing the incidence of failure while in multi-sensor systems it means the result of system result. This thesis working on the research of the reliability design model puts forward the a new general method of calculation of k-n system reliability, proposes a new model of reliability design and study the application in multi-sensor system with the new model.Reliability includes the reliability design and reliability analysis methods.Reliability design also called redundant design which is using reliability design model to improve the reliability of systems.The reliability analysis method uses appropriate methods to analyze the reliability of a particular system.Reliability design model contains series system model, parallel system model and k/n system model.Parallel system model and k/n system model is used widely. However, Parallel system model and k/n system model has their defect-they can not distinguish the importance of redundancy unit, which only fit the systems which consists of isomorphic and similar units and do not fit the systems built by isomerism units. Parallel system model and k/n system model alos do not fit the systems built by isomorphic units which are differnt in importance. According to the defect of parallel system and k/n system model, this thesis puts forward a new reliability design model-weighted voting system model. Weighted voting system can be applied not only in the systems where the parallel system and k/n voting system are used but also in the isomerism-unit system, because it can allocate weights to units which have different reliability. Weighted voting system will be better in the isomerism-unit system and is more accurate in evaluating the reliability of isomerism-unit system.Multi-sensor information fusion system is the system which merges all the information collected by the sensors. Information fusion is a technology which is used to deal the conflicting infomation. Voting system model needs to deal with differnt results from differnt units which makes it own the ability to solve the conflict in information and it can be used in the information fusion. So, this thesis also studied the application in multi-sesion infomation fusion of weighted voting system.This thesis first introduces some concepts of reliability such as reliability characteristic quantity, reliability design model and reliability analysis.Then the article introduces the k/n voting system, puts forward a new calculate method of system reliability of k-out-of-n system and studies on the influence of the k,n and units’reliability on system reliability. And weighted voting system model is put forward in the article according the article, the reflection of units’weight, system threshod and units’reliability on weighted voting system’s system reliability. The thesis also studied the application of weighted voting system in multi-sensors information fusion. Finally,the experiment analyses the k-out-of-n system and the weighted system and analyse the application of weighted voting system by an example.
