China is one of the countries where earthquake disasters happen frequently. At present, reinforced concrete frame structure is widely used in building structures in China, which is usually used the common sintered brick, masonry, or other lightweight materials for external framework filling and internal space division, Infill frame have flexibility and diversity in the building layout. Usually in structure design of the time before take the infill wall as the no-structure component, regardless of the force, seismic design by adopting cycle reduction factor to consider the influence infill wall on the frame structure. In the Wenchuan earthquake, lots of frame structures have suffered damage, the main seismic damage performance is the masonry-infill walls presented the serious cracks or damage. Where as the damaged non-structural components suffered earthquake brings serious damage of the building’s function, and even threaten to people’s life, therefore, based on the causes above, the research about the effect of infill wall on frame structure’s seismic performance and applying the research results in the future framework structure or frame structure reinforcement design have important practical significance.This paper has carried out the following work:(1) Based on the earthquake in recent years,the failure modes and failure reasons of infill walls in earthquake and the interaction between infill walls and framework structure is introduced in this paper after collecting and sorting out the literature published at home and aboard.(2) Mechanical model based on the interaction between infill walls and frame structure is introduced in this paper adopting three-strut model to simulate the infill wall. Models of frame structure both with and without infill walls have been established by SAP2000.Pushover analysis was carried out on the models by the software, the influence of infill wall on the integral stiffness; bearing capacity and deformation of the frame structure have been studied. Stress and distribution characteristics of the plastic hinge of column section and beam section when structure is been destroyed have been summarized. According to the distribution and order of the plastic hinge, failure paths is summarized. Finally, the main failure mode of structure under earthquake is archived.(3) A fully dynamic time-history analysis in terms of the first and third stage design level is made in this paper to research the change of the story drift and its angle.
