With its remarkable economy and adaptability,reinforced concrete frame structure(RC frame structure)has been becoming one of the most popular structure forms in our country.Based on the requirement for good natural lighting,windows in infill walls make the column restrained locally,which contributes to an increase of stiffness of the column restrained locally and results in failure mode change,such as“short column failure”.Based on the requirement for function,infill walls along vertical direction are not continuous and the vertical stiffness is not uniform,which results in “weak story failure”.Based on the contents of horizontal layouts,infill walls set irregularly cause “torsion failure”.However,present study often considers the infill wall as uniformly distributed load on the beam and the basic period of RC frame structure is multiplied by the reduction factor in consideration of the impact of infill wall,which can not take into account the interaction between frame and infill wall and cause “short column failure”,“weak story failure” and “torsion failure”.Based on typical failure mode of the RC frame structure and finite element method,the main contents of the paper are as follows:1.Taking account into stiffness of the infill wall,analyzing the influence on frame caused by different kind of infill walls with different modulus suggests that the natural period reduction factor should be refined accurately based on the location,number,material of infill wall.2.Based on typical failure mode of the RC frame structure,such as “short column failure” and taking full consideration of the local constraint caused by infill wall,the paper analyzes the influence on frame caused by infill wall quantitatively in elastic stage by means of comparing the internal force of key member and elastic story drift,and the paper analyzes the influence above quantitatively in elastic-plastic stage by means of comparing the inelastic story drift.3.Based on typical failure mode of the RC frame structure,such as “weak story failure” and taking full consideration of the stiffness contribution of infill wall,the paper analyzes the influence on frame caused by infill wall quantitatively in elasticstage by means of comparing the internal force of key member and elastic story drift,and the paper analyzes the influence above quantitatively in elastic-plastic stage by means of comparing the inelastic story drift.The paper proves that specification is reasonable to some extent and there are unsafe situations,which are outside of the specification.The result given in the paper can be available in structure design,engineering as well in further research.
