Auto cover is one of the three important parts to a car, its manufacture has a largeproportion in the automotive industry. The modern stamping technology has beentremendous development because of the development of the automotive industry.Now stamping of the auto cover is thirty percent of the whole stamping industry. Thestructure of auto cover which constitute bodywork is complicated. The deformationrules of auto cover are difficult to be certain. Its formability is lower than otherstamping workpieces. As the major manufacturing tools of auto covers, moldsdetermine the quality of auto cover largely. For traditional mold design andmanufacturing, its manufacturing program is confirmed by constant trials and error.With simulation software widely used in the automotive industry, CAE changed thetraditional manufacturing techniques thoroughly. Before the manufacture of molds,forming and design problems predicted by numerical simulation technology,whichcan not only reduce the tryout time to a minimum, but also reduce the waste ofresources caused by the tryout.At first, the thesis makes an overview of the structural characteristics of the autocover, manufacturing problems in stamping process, development process of modernauto cover molds, illustrates defects which easily arise in mold debugging andsolutions for these defects in detail. Introduce the development history of FiniteElement Method briefly and explain the core content of the large deformationelastic-plastic finite element theory, including four major aspects. They areconstitutive theory, solving algorithm, unit model and issues in contact and search.Meanwhile it’s introduced on the main features and design ideas of AutoForm usedherein. Secondly, complete the numerical simulation to forming process of EXT,PNL-UPR-RR, LH/RH by AutoForm software. Solve the problems emerging in thepre-process stage and study how the technology parameters affect the forming quality.At the same time, optimize the parts forming quality, confirm the best parameters. Atlast, complete the numerical simulation to bending process of U shaped parts, and get the conclusion through studying how the material properties and technologyparameters affect the springback.
