The properties of rock-soil mass are largely different in kinds of projects. The engineeringproperties of soft foundation (artificial backfill unconsolidated or fault belts) are such poor thatit’s difficult to meet the requirements of strength and permeability. It is harmful for buildingswithout being consolidated.Fushun Petroleum Refinery NO.1is located in a complicated circumstance where buildingfoundation appears a large number of cavitations cracks, resulting in the earth surface andbuildings deformed and shifting. We took the grouting practice used to plug F1A fault inFushun Petroleum Refinery NO.1as an example to explain the method. The grouting is usefulto consolidate the fault structures and the Quaternary alluvial, to improve the impermeabilityas well as the foundation strength, to slow deformation of foundation, and to guarantee thestability. In this article, we reviewed the histories of grouting technique and grouting materials, stated the composition, principle and application condition, analyzed the principle andprogress of design. An on-site test was put into practice in the light of engineering geologicaldata from Fushun Petroleum Refinery NO.1. Various construction parameters such asmaterials, mixing proportion, borehole structure, whole spacing were fixed based on the testresults. Meanwhile, the grouting parameters were adjusted in accordance with situationson-site to ensure the quality and safety. The pressure grouting technique is verified to be effective, because the filling of fracturesis successful to reduce the permeability of rock-soil mass and to enhance the integrity ofrock-soil mass and grout-body. The conclusion of this article has some reference for similarprojects in the future.
