Currently, the energy crisis and environmental pollution has become a majorproblem which restricts the development of the automobile industry. To deal with thisproblem, the major automobile manufacturers in the world have increased thedevelopment and use of renewable and clean energy. Solar power becomes a hot topic inthe study of automobile energy because of its generation process is clean withoutpollution and Low running costs.At present, due to the impact of solar cell materials andthe conversion efficiency, the car which relies on solar power as a pure power still in theconceptual and research stage and cannot really achieve popularization.So an importantway to promote the solar car’s development is to increase the power generationefficiencyof solar car’s photovoltaic system.This dissertation takes the photovoltaic system of solar car as the research object.The modified engineering mathematics model of the photovoltaic array has beenobtained through the analysis of output characteristics of solar cell. In the Simulinkenvironment, the simulation model of the PV cell is established and the outputcharacteristic curve of PV.cell is obtained based on the model. Secondly, the sun trackingcontrol strategy is proposed based on the characteristics of photovoltaic to ensure thegeneration capacity of photovoltaic cell is fully utilized; According to the load matchingprinciple, the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) strategy is proposed to realize themaximum utilization of electrical energy generated by photovoltaic array.According to the control strategy proposed in this dissertation, the hardware circuitis designed with ATmega16microcontroller as the core, and the correspondingsimulation model is established in PROTUES. The hardware circuit includes opticalsignal detection device, double motor driving device and boosting circuit module, etc. Bystudying the current maximum power point tracking algorithm and the characteristics ofthe pv output characteristic curve, the weighting slope method is proposed to track themaximum power point, and is verified by Simulink simulation. The hardware program was design according to the requirements of each part of thesystem and the designed algorithm. Then program is debugged though the simulationmodel established by the PROTUES. Finally, a good program is burned to the hardwarecircuit, and the designed system debugs and tests in the actual environment. Under thesame environmental condition,the PV array is tested when the control and without the control isapplied to. According to the measurement data, the control strategy designed in this paperis verified to improve the performance of the system.
