Research On Contemporary Narrative Monumental Landscape

The commemorative landscape produced by culture, which induced the form and function of artificial material environment, Modern pluralistic culture leads to the diversity of commemorative landscape. The purpose of this paper is to find the cultural mechanism and the structure of knowledge behind the new paradigm of contemporary commemorative landscape, to help people know and understand the cultural characteristics and the essence of modern commemorative landscape reaction; the other purpose is to conclude the kinds of space combination, and finally to figure out the process and the significance of the thoughts during the design.The author tends to select individual keywords to explain the abstract concept or phenomenon, try to pursuit the rationality explanation rather than taking care of everything.In the second chapter, the first part is about "post industrial society","mass society","pop art" the three new terms born in contemporary, which describes the context of contemporary from the economic, social and cultural. The second part explains the concepts of monumentality and commemorative landscape from the narrow level and broad level. The object of this dissertation is the narrow one.In the third chapter the author discusses the origin of the word "narrative", the relationships between narrative and film, architecture, landscape and how people gradually put the study of narrative into film, architecture and landscape with their own characteristics, architectural narratology is the main content; the word."narrative" which is used in daily life means a description of stories and history, it is no longer a subject in structuralism.In the fourth chapter the author illustrates the six key words to describe the influence of contemporary commemorative landscape culture, which are metropolis, surrealism, events, individual existence, consumerism, collective unconscious. The first five words appears in nearly a century, and final one "collective unconscious" refers to an eternal phenomenon accompanied by human being. The dissertation analyses their origin, their development and the relationship between them and the commemorative landscape practices.The fifth chapter summarizes several main space combination forms in commemorative landscapes, namely linear type, labyrinth, fragment type, superimposition, rhetoric is a supplement and perfection of space narrative form.A detailed analysis for three commemorative landscape cases is in the sixth chapter, in which the artists’s ideological tendency, design method and the performance style are different, resulting in completely different narrative strategy.The argument of this paper is the leading role in generation of contemporary commemorative landscape cannot do without culture.
