Landscape Narrative In Contemporary Landscape Design

Nowadays,landscape design is still in the period of exploration,modern landscape design always pays more attention to the effect of space,but ignores the importance of time expression.Narratology is a discipline that arranges texts according to time which provides a closer relationship between time and space.Introduce the knowledge of narratology in landscape design is to reconsider the spatial expression from the perspective of time,so as to improve the quality of space.Landscape narrative makes the space become a “place” with spiritual meaning on the basis of visual and environment needs,the real communication happens between people and landscape.Through the combination of development of landscape narrative and case study of modern landscape projects,the essay aims at analyzing and concluding the narrative strategies and design methods.The text is divided into three main parts:The first two chapters mainly focus on the theory,development process and existing background of landscape narrative both in China and abroad,meanwhile summarizes the characteristics and significance of landscape narrative design through the theory of place spirit and contextualism.The third chapter mainly describes the narrative strategies such as arrangement of narrative clues,creation of narrative themes and rhetoric strategies.The design method of time and space organization is depicted through the plot driving of landscape space,presented with the practical application of design cases.Several research methods are applied in the essay such as literature theory research,site investigation,system analysis and interdisciplinary,drawing lessons from relevant theories in literary narrative and film narrative.Through the investigation and study of landscape narrative design theory and practical application both in China and abroad,bringing knowledge of narratology like narrative space,narrative structure,narrative time and plot driving to the landscape design,so as to systematically explore the narrative application in landscape design to meet the spiritual,cultural and other non-material needs.
