Flight data recorder (FDR) is an apparatus which can collect and store some flight parameters of the flight vehicle. By obtaining the flight parameters and through further dealing with them, the flight vehicle’s operation can be displayed and some particular analysis can be done. When there is an accident or an attack, FDR will suffer from the explosive loading, so FDR must possess high blast-resistant performance. Limited by the facility’s ability and the features of dangerous and uncontrollable, ordinary explosive experiment is hard to perform. In addition, the experimental expenses is enormous, as a result the amount of experiment will be quite limited. But Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) exactly is a good method to solve this kind of problem. The Finite Element Method (FEM) is the CAE’s main method. Today, the finite element analysis (FEA) becomes a numerical "virtual experiment" which can partly substitute for the real experiment. In this thesis ABAQUS, a general-purpose FEA program, is chosen to emulate the structure dynamic response of the FDR under explosive impact load.In view of the characteristic of ABAQUS and the destroy rule of blast wave, this thesis introduces the theory of nonlinear dynamics finite element analysis in detail. First, introduces three methods in ABAQUS which are used to carry on transient dynamics analysis. These three methods comprise mode superposition, implicit integration and explicit integration. And their respective characteristics and application fields are discussed. Next, the thesis analyzes the characteristic of nonlinear finite element. Finally, explicit integration is chosen. In addition, in ABAQUS/CAE the finite element model of FDR is created, and then ABAQUS/Explicit is invoked to carry on FEA, finally the simulation result is discussed. Moreover, according to the result, FEA is done to emulate the dynamic response of FDR with different materials and structures and some improvement advice is put forward. In a word, in this thesis FDR is taken as the research object and FEM is used to both analyze the structure dynamic response of FDR under explosive impact load and improve the design of FDR.
