Magnolia zenii, belongs to Magnolia genus of Magnoliaceae family,is a rare species, whichhas tall and straight trunk and meticulous materials. It is a kind of precious ornamental trees andoften booming in early spring, with great potential of application for its landscaping function andmedicinal properties. Hardwood and softwood cutting propagation was systematicly studied withthe materials of one-year-old shoots of Magnolia zenii in this paper. In order to providetheoretical and practical reference for the production of Magnolia zenii, the cutting propagationtechnology, rooting mechanism and morphologic observation were researched and discussed.Themain conclusions were as follows:1. There is significant influence of the rooting indexes through the difference of the type ofexogenous hormone, the rooting hormone concentration, the type of cutting matrices and the typeof the of cuttings. Exogenous hormone NAA had the most significant effect on rooting ofcuttings. The best effect cutting season was spring while the worst was autumn. Orthogonal test ofspring showed that the treat which cutted in perlite and soaked in growth regulators of600mg/LNAA for10second had the highest rooting rate60.00%.Orthogonal test of summerindicated that the treat which selected the upper cutting with terminal bud and blade, and soakedin growth regulators of400mg/LNAA for10minute had the highest rooting rate42.22%.Orthogonal test of autumn displayed that chose the roughness cutting with0.4to0.8centimeterand soaked in growth regulators of200mg/LNAA for1hour had the highest rooting rate36.67%.Pearlite, roseite ash by1:1showed the best result, and which mixed with peat was the worst.Therooting indexes of of three season on orthogonal test were highly significant positive correlationbetween the characters.2. It’s a process that need consuming energy during adventitious rooting,in which, thecontent of total soluble sugar and starch significantly decreased and the content of proteinchanged during rooting phase in the rooting zone of Magnolia zenii stem cuttings. The content oftotal soluble sugar and protein were increased and by auxin treatment, and the use of starch waspromoted through hydrolysis.3. Considerable metabolic activity occurs as new root tissues appeared and the roots growthrough and out of the surrounding stem tissues.SOD,POD and MDA activity changes obviouslyduring rooting phase. Hormone treatment significantly increased SOD and POD activity duringadventitious root formation and was conducive to the initiation and development of adventitiousroots.4. According to the external morphology of the cutting, Magnolia zenii was belonged to thecomprehensive rooting type, with cortex rooting type and callus rooting type.
