Sea buckthorn (Hippophae L.) is a perennial woody shrub or small tree, its berries are rich in over100bioactive compouds with a potential nutritional, health and medicinal value. There is few reports on metabolic mechanisms of its berry quality formation. In here, based on the plant metabolomics strategy, non-targeted1H NMR (magnetic resonance spectroscopy) and PCA (principal component analysis) were used to determine metabolite fingerprint detection and analysis of the sea buckthorn berry quality traits. The main aim of this research is to establish a fast and efficient assessment methods for different quality traits sea buckthorn fruits to supply the more reasonable choice of raw materials for producing different types of commercial production; and understand the formation mechanism of sea buckthorn fruit quality traits for providing some theoretical basis of effectively improving the the sea buckthorn breeding. This study discover that there have significant differences in metabolics between sea buckthorn pulp and seeds samples, as well as sea buckthorn samples with different quality traits. Some potential metabolic biomarkers were also identified. The main results are as follows:1. Potential metabolic biomarkers for prediction of difference between different types of sea buckthorn samples identified include:amino acids and its precursors, organic acids, carbohydrates, water-soluble esters, polyphenols, fat-soluble vitamin and its precursors, fatty acids substances, fruit acid, terpenes and sterols substances et al;2. The pulp samples of three cultivars’Siberia hongyun’,’Alexandria-12’and ’Jiuyuehuang’have lower level of organic acid content and higher level of carbohydrate content. These cultivars can be used to produce fresh products;3. The pulp samples of five cultivars ’Wucifeng’,’Zhuangyuanhuang’,’Fangxiang’,’Liusha-1’and’Cross’are rich in organic acid content, so they could be applied to the production of fermented drinks, health care drugs for step-down and skin repair cosmetics; at the same time, their pulp samples are also rich in GABA,thus, these cultivars have longer fruiting period, and being suitable for ornamental trees;4. The seeds samples of five cultivars’Siberia hongyun’,’Wucifeng’,’Zhuangyuanhuang’,’Liusha-1’and’Alexandria-12’have higher content in flavonoids. These cultivars are suitable for preparing the pharmaceutical and healthcare products which use flavonoids as the main ingredient; 5. The pulp and seeds of two cultivars ’Fangxiang’ and ’Cross’ both have higher content of ursolic acid and β-sitosterol, and have higher ability of resistance to against the terllar tenuis Nees·etFr.These two cultivars are also suitable for the manufacture of whitening cosmetics.
