Four Red Algae Investigation On The Basis Of Morphology, RbcL Sequence Analyses And The Observation Of The Early Stage Of Life History

This study was divided into two parts. In the first one, two algae of Kallymeniaceae from the coast of Liaoning Province were examined on the basis of morphology and rbcL sequence analyses. In the second, two algae of Polyopes J. Agardh in Halymeniaceae, respectively from the coast of Liaoning Province and Shandong Province, were examined on the basis of morphology and the observation of the early stage of life history, and cultivated these two algae in the laboratory. The results are as follows:1) The alga from Dalu Island in Liaoning Province, whose accession number is LNNUDLD091105, is a new species with the name of Callophyllis flabelliformis H.W.Wang et Y.W.Sheng sp.nov.2) The algae from Guanglu Island in Liaoning Province, whose accession numbers respectively are LNNUGLD0910001and LNNUGLD0910007, are new records of Psaromenia berggrenii (J.Agardh) D’Archino, W.A.Nelson&Zuccarello in China.3) Based on the absence of any mature isomorphic tetrasporophyte amongst the collections, D’Archino considered that it was highly likely Psaromenia berggrenii had a heteromorphic life history or one in which there was a departure from a triphasic life history involving isomorphic gametophytes and tetrasporophytes. However, the specimen of LNNUGLD0910007in this study is tetrasporophyte, and it should be that P. berggrenii has a triphasic life history involving isomorphic gametophytes and tetrasporophytes.4) P. tenuis Womersley&Lewis from Xinghai Park in Dalian, whose accession number is LNNUXHGY1109011, has a direct crust type of sporogenesis in the early stage of life history. The details of sporogenesis are as follows:the initial cell developed from carpospore had two types of division, one was irregular dichotomy division, the other was tribetral division. And at last, the initial cell directly formed crust at the original position.5)P. constrictus (Turner) J.Agardh from Luxun Park in Qingdao, whose accession number is LNNUXHGY1109023, has an indirect crust type of sporogenesis in the early stage of life history. The details of sporogenesis are as follows:the initial cell developed from carpospore had zonate division; as it kept dividing, the rod-like cells formed;one terminal part of rod-like cells germinated round crust. 6) The types of sporogenesis in the early stage of life history are different between P. tenuis and P. constrictus. It showed interspecific differences. As a result, the species of Polyopes can be distinguished from the type of sporogenesis in the early stage of life history.
