We studied the effect of boric acid (BA), sorbitol-boric acid (SB) and glycerin-boric acid (GB) on growth and boron uptake in rape seedlings through radicle pour and foliar spray. By analysis of the responses of rape seedlings to appropriate dosages of SB and GB, we may develop new technologies for improving boron fertilizer utilization and conduct the use of organic boron fertilizer in crop production.1. Rape seedlings at cotyledon stage and3leaves stage grew best when boron concentration was0.5mg/L through radicle pour. Boron content in leaves increased significantly with the increase of boron application. Leaf boron content in rape seedlings treated with SB and GB showed more increase than that treated with BA. Plant height, shoot fresh and dry weight, leaf chlorophyll content and root activity of the seedlings treated with SB and GB were improved compared with BA. SB and GB application also caused more absorption of P, Mg, Ca, K and Fe. The transportation of three forms of boron in rape seedlings was also different. Polyol-chelated boron fertilizers had higher translocation efficiency by promoting B transport from old organs to new organs.2. Rape seedlings at cotyledon stage and3leaves stage grew best when boron concentrations were60mg/L and80mg/L through foliar spray. Boron content in new leaves and old leaves increased significantly with the increase of boron application. Leaf boron contents in seedlings treated with SB and GB showed more increase than that treated with BA. This showed that SB and GB can promote boron transport from old leaves to new leaves. In addition, SB and GB could increase the plant height, shoot fresh and dry weight, leaf chlorophyll content and root activity. They also promoted the absorption of more P, Mg, Ca, K and Fe.In conclusion, we suggest that polyol-chelated boron should be advantageous to be uptaken and translocated in rape seedlings.
