Osmunda is produced by the leaves of a wild plant called Osmunda japonica Thunb. and its related species ramets Osmunda cinnamomea L. Fernald. The Osmunda japonica Thunb. is located in the region south of the Yangtze River in China while The Osmunda cinnamomea L. Fernald mainly distributed in Northeast China and North China. Flavonoids, lactones, steroid ketones, polysaccharides, tannins and amino acids and other ingredients are rich in Osmunda japonica Thunb. Its rich nutrients and distinctive flavor make it has highly development and utilization value. In this issue, the Osmunda produced in southwest mountain of Hubei province is treated as a research object. Wild habitat survey is conducted and plant nutrients, bioactive substances and the rhizosphere soil nutrient and enzyme are analyzed. The correlation between nutrient content, growth of Osmunda japonica Thunb. and the soil conditions is studied. The results showed that the weak light, damp places more than800m above sea level, soil and gravel content low, the soil humus layer hypertrophy, rich in nutrients and acidic environment is the best living conditions for Osmunda. The contents of nitrogen is affected by the activity of soil urease and protease while the contents of available phosphorus is affected by soil phosphoric acid enzyme. The contents of soil nutrient and activity of enzyme has a significant influence on the the Osmunda growth traits. The contents of soil available potassium has a certain positive correlation with the leaf number on osmunda stump. Soil organic matter, available potassium and the activity of soil urease, protease have a certain positive correlation with diameter and plant height of osmunda.Soil on occasion of Osmunda root and activity of enzyme do a great influence on Nutrients in Osmunda and content of biologically active substances. The contents of Nitrogen, available potassium in soil on occasion of Osmunda root and the activity of soil urease and proteolytic enzyme has a certain positive correlation with the contents of amino acid in osmunda. The contents of protein in osmunda is alse the case. The contents of organic matter in soil on occasion of osmunda root and the activity of sucrase has a certain positive correlation with the contents of soluble sugar; the activity of sucrose, urease and protease in soil on occasion of Osmunda root has a certain positive correlation with the contents of flavonoids and polyphenols in osmunda.
