| Plant essential oils have bioactivity against various pests. The researches onfumigant insecticidal activity of plant essential oils against stored-product pests aremuch more than those on tea plantation and greenhouse pests. This study examined10plant essential oils, their volatilization, volatile constituents and fumigant effect on thefalse-eye tea leafhopper (Empoasca vitis G the) and whitefly [Bemisia tabaci(Gennadius)] as well as field control efficacy in tea plantations (Institute of Tea,Fujian Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Fuzhou, Fujian) and greenhouses (LinongAgricultural Technology Co. Ltd., Putian, Fujian). The main results were as follows:Analyzed by Gas Chromatograph-Mass Spectrometery, the volatile constituentsof the10plant essential oils included terpenoids (the major constituents), alcohols, aldehydes, esters and other compounds. There were some volatile constituents withbioactivity, such as citronellal in citronella oil; limonene and pulegol in geranium oil;methyl salicylate in eugenol and wintergreen oil; anethole and alpha-pinene in fenneloil; alpha-pinene and cineole in eucalyptus oil, peppermint oil, basil leaves oil andArtemisia annua oil.At a dose of0.2μL/mL, wintergreen oil, fennel oil caused100%correctedmortality of E. vitis after24hours. At a dose of1μL/L, wintergreen oil caused96.64%corrected mortality of E. vitis after4hours. At a dose of0.2μL/mL, citronellaoil, cinnamon oil, eugenol, wintergreen oil, eucalyptus oil, and peppermint oil resultedin100%corrected mortality of B. tabaci after4hours. At a dose of1μL/L,wintergreen oil caused96.37%corrected mortality of B. tabaci after24hours.Within the tea plantation, after one day hanging of fennel oil and wintergreen oil,the population of E. vitis showed a obvious decrease on the first day, with a maximumrectifying reduce rate of76.20%being obtained. In the cucumber greenhousefumigation experiment, after800mL wintergreen oil treated one day, there was a amaximum rectifying reduce rate of17.31%being obtained. |
