120Yugan silky fowls with close egg laying rate and body weight at26weeks oldwere selected and randomly divided into6treatments with20chickens per treatment. Theperiod of trial was3weeks with1week of pretrial. To investigate the effect of the extractof asparagus straw on egg laying performance, immune function and serum biochemicalindex in Yugan silky fowls, the control group was fed with the basal diet and the treatmentgroups were fed with the basal diet supplemented with0.1%0.2%0.3%0.4%0.5%of theextract of asparagus straw, respectively. The results showed that: compared with thecontrol group, supplementing with extract of asparagus straw (0.1%to0.5%) significantlyincreased egg laying rate (P<0.05) and significantly decreased serum low-densitylipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT)(P<0.05). The levelsof serum superoxide dismutase (SOD) and IgG was significantly increased in groupsadding0.1%to0.4%(P<0.05) and0.5%(P<0.01) of the extract of asparagus straw. Thelevel of IgM in serum was significantly increased in groups adding0.1%to0.3%(P<0.05),adding0.4%to0.5%(P<0.01) of the extract of asparagus straw. The results indicated thatthe diets supplemented with0.1%to0.5%of the extract of asparagus straw were helpful toimprove egg laying rate and immune function and have the effects of reducing LDL-C toprotect the liver.
