Rice Varieties Certificated In1999-2009in Jiangxi Province Of China And Their Pedigree Analysis

From1999to2009, many conventional varieties and hybrid combinations of rice had successively been developed by breeders in and outside Jiangxi Province by making full use of domestic and foreign excellent resources, and using various breeding methods, Which has made tremendous contributions for paddy rice development in Jiangxi and even countrywide, and for security of national food safety. In this paper, for the period from1999to2009of Jiangxi rice breeding progress were summarized, and the basic orders of Jiangxi rice cultivar genealogy relationship were rationalized, which would be provided certain theoretical basis and reference for future breeding work. The main results showed as fellow.(1) From1999to2009,30conventional early-season indica varieties were registered and released for commercial production by Jiangxi Provincial Crop Variety Appraisal Committees. According to the genetic relationship of them, the Pedigree charts of the basis of the rice parent varieties such as Zhe9248, Ganzaoxian7, Zhongyouzao3, Zhou903, Jiayu948and Jinzao47were made, meanwhile, the traits of these backbone parents were descriped. The breeding methods for producing early-season indica varieties in Jiangxi Province was mainly cross breeding, which accounted for70percent of all cultivars. The dwarf-resource parents were mainly originated from Aijiaoante, Aizizhan and IR8. The disease resistance level of the early-season indica varieties increased more than before, and their resistant source were basically from abroad germplasm. Their quality substantially improved than before, but the yield levels of them basically maintained. Various research units attached great importance to the discovery and utilization of the backbone parent of rice.(2) During the period of1999-2009,20conventional late-season indica varieties t were registered and released for commercial production by Jiangxi Provincial Crop Variety Appraisal Committees. According to the phylogenetic relationship of them, the Pedigree charts at the basis of the rice parent varieties such as uexiangzhan, Xiangeng89, Ganwanxian30and so on, were made, and the traits of these backbone parents were descriped at the same time. From the family trees, most of the major late-season indica varieties bred from several backbone parents, and the genetic basis of these varieties was weak relatively. From the view of breeding methods, the mainly method for developing late-season indica varieties was cross-breeding, which had no difference comparing with that of early-season indica varieties. From the view of breeding target, the quality of varieties bred was overall superior, and their yield levels had no substantial increasing, meanwhile, the breeding object was diversified.(3) Preliminary family trees of the early and late season rice hybrid combinations produced by three or two line method were made, and the work of the selection and breeding for the CMS line, dual-purpose genic male sterile line and their hybrid combinations were summarized.(4) The experience of rice breeding work in Jiangxi Province was preliminarily summarized, and some suggestions for Jiangxi rice breeding strategy in the future were proposed.
