The role of fruit industry is increasingly becoming important in agriculture and inrural economical development in China. In North China and North-west Chinahowever the scarce of fresh water resource is seriously a limited factor impeding thesustainable development of fruit production. At the same time there are abundantslight saline groundwater and saline groundwater from shallow table in this region.Exploitation of the slight saline groundwater or saline groundwater would be requiredsolution to increasing fruit output as fighting against drought in zone of fresh shortage. So a research on the effects of mixed sline and fresh water irrigation on fruit treedevelopment and growth fruit production and fruit quality and soil electricalconductivity was conducted baseded on a pear orchard owned by a farmer inMiaozhuang village of Chengguan zhen and on a apple orchard managed by QuzhouExperimental Station of CAU in Quzhou county Hebei province with the expectationof giving scientific suggestions for pomiculture with irrigaton using of shallow weakmineralized groundwater. After nearly3-year study some conclusions as following were obtained based onthe soil type provided in this reaserach.(1) IWMGw stressed the development and growth of pear and apple to a certainextent. IWMGw notably decreased the longth of young pear sprout by32.5%~42.7%and markedly decreased the young apple sprout by17.6%compared with Ifw.Although no significant influences was found on output or fruit type of pear andapple in IWMGw.(2) IWMGw would influence some quality indexes of fruit. IWMGw couldstrikingly increase the hardness of pear by1.16%notebly improved content of solublesolid of pear by3.53%and signifcantly reduced content of titratable acid by20.3%compared with Ifw after3years.(3) Irrigation with weak mineralization groundwater (IWMGw) significantly ledto soil salification in fruit orchad. Salinity cumulated more easilly in upper soil layerin treatment of IWMGw than in treatment of irrigation with fresh water (IFw). Thesoil electrical conductivity in0~5cm soil layer significantly was increased by2.3%~72.7%compared with that in5~10cm soil layer in treatment of IWMGw but no notable difference between the two soil layers in treatment of Ifw. The soil electricalconductivity in deeper soil layer (80~120cm) in treatment of IWMGw was distinctlyincreased by15.4%~237%compared with that in treatment of Ifw.Shallow underground salinity water could be hopefully utilized in planting pearor apple would the measurement of irrigation work be further used to drain the saltfrom weak mineralized water using rain in summer in time and irrigate with the weakmineralized water at a certain development and growth stage of fruit tree.
