The ideotype is one crucial target of rice breeding at home and abroad currently. The ideal plant type of rice should possess some characters like, low tillering ability of rice, less ineffective tillering, thick stem, large ears, well-developed root system and high harvest index. The quantitative trait loci of ideal plant type of rice is dominated by IPA1encodes transcription factor containing SBP-box, and involves in the regulation of multiple growth and development process. The ipal mutant can lead to plant height increase, stem thicker, number of tillers decrease, grain number and weight significantly increased, and has typical characteristics of ideal plant type. The ipal gene has tremendous breeding potential to be ideal plant type of rice and can accelerate the process of super rice breeding to make new breakthroughs in breeding and production in rice by molecular breeding and transgenosis. The study was based on the SNP functional mutation of IPA1â†'ipa1(3529locus, Câ†'A) to develop CAPS markers. Test results indicated that the CAPS markers of this research can clearly differentiate the ipa1, the ipa1and the IPA1/ipa1genotypes, and can be used for breeding selection assisted by molecular marker. The donor material TN1, TN8, TN19, TN21, TN28, rice-1, rice-2, E6, ipa1-2010containing ipa1gene was hybridized with restorer Changhui891, Changhui121, ChanghuiT025, Chang huiT470, Changhui0791, anti mosquito green, dubious restore3, R319, C418,02428, W3668, koshihikari and so on, then the F1generation was backcrossed and breeded, combine with marker-assisted selection, selected BC1F3, F4, BC2F1, BC1F1, F3, F2, F1with ipal gene and other progeny of material more than230copies to Hainan breeding add generation finally.
