The seagrass is widely distributed in the world and appears in the form ofseagrass beds. Z. marina, as an important part of seagrass bed, has the high ability ofcarbon sequestration and important ecological functions. This research studied thegenetic structure and biomass dynamic characteristics of Zostera marina L. inQingdao and Yantai. The most results are summarized as follows:1.The monthly dynamic characteristics of biomass of Z. marina in QingdaoThe area of seagrass in Huiquan Bay reach4000m2. The average spacing densityand average biomass of seagrass are384ind/m2and161.7g/m2. The average heightand degree of coverage are42.5cm and50.9%. Seagrass of Qingdao Bay show apatch-shape distribution and the area reach8875m2. The average spacing density andaverage biomass of seagrass are496ind/m2and309.2g/m2. The average height anddegree of coverage are53.2cm and68.4%. The growth of seagrass show obviousseasonal changes. From June to November in2012, the average carbon content of above groundand underground of seagrass is33.0%and34.4%, respectively. The average nitrogencontent of above ground of seagrass and underground of seagrass is2.3%and1.6%,respectively. Based on the average carbon content, the carbon content stored inseagrass in Huiquan Bay is54.8g/m2.2. The genetic diversity and structure of differenct geographic populations in Qingdaoand YaitaiGenetic diversity and population structure of five natural populations ofZ.marina L. were investigated by using microsatellite markers (SSR). A total of47alleles were identified in150individuals across the eight microsatellite primersanalysed, with a mean value of5.87alleles per locus. The mean expectedheterozygosity (He) and observed heterozygosity (Ho) across all populations were0.548and0.296, respectively, and a higher level of diversity was found in population Yantai (Nei=0.645,I=1.189). FSTvalues suggested moderate genetic differentiationwithin most populations. From the UPGMA tree, QD-in and YDS-sub clusteredtogether fisrt, which may be due to genetic effects induced by the dramatic changes ofgeographic environment of the seagrass field.
