Field experiment was conducted in Ecological and agricultural water savingirrigation experimental station of China Agriculture University in Wuwei Gansu inApril-September2012,there are two processing factors of nitrogen and irrigation. Theconcurrent influences of three nitrogen levels[(N1:337.5kg hm-2),3/4N1(N2:253.13kg hm-2),1/2N1(N3:168.75kg hm-2))] and four water [100%CK (T1:465.4mm/667m3),85%CK (T2:416.8mm/667m3),65%CK (T3:351.9mm/667m3),45%CK(T4:287.1mm/667m3)].The design of split plot, the mainfactor is nitrogen and irrigation is second. The experiment studied the interactiveeffects of water and fertilizer on quality and yield in tomato Plants under furrowirrigation. In order to acquire the optimal application levels of water and nitrogen fortomato under furrow irrigation and plastic mulch cropping model in arid regions ofNorthwest China. The results showed that:1The effect of different treatments on soil moisture spatial distribution:withthe increase of soil depth of the soil moisture content change trend is consistent.Thetrend is first increases then decreases and the last increases again. The soil moisture ofbut both sides of groove and the groove present “W”curve in the depth of0-30cm.Butthe soil moisture of30-60cm is different,below60cm that is stable.2The effect of different treatments on tomato configuration index: the effect ofthe tomato plant height is consistent about the different irrigation and fertilizationtreatment. The growth trend from fast to slow, but the highest average growth rate ofeach treatment is difference, while the tomato LAI tests unimodal trend.3The results showed that85%CK water amount had no significant negativeinfluence on tomato marketable yield, but the65%or45%CK water amountdecreased tomato market yield significantly. The3/4CK nitrogen application has nosignificant impact on tomato total and market yield.4The effect of different treatments on tomato quality index: the fruit color index, firmness, SSC and soluble sugar content increased as the irrigation water decreased, but the organic acid content decreased. The results also indicated that different nitrogen application had no effects on the SSC and organic acid content. However, thesoluble sugar content increased when the applied nitrogen amount was decreased. With the irrigation and nitrogen decreasing, vitamin C content showed a rising trendfirstly, and then decreased.Considering the yield, fruit quality and water use efficiency (WUE), thecombination of416.76mm water amount (85%CK) and117.6kg/ha pure nitrogenapplication (3/4CK) was an optimal compromise for higher yield and better fruitquality, which should be recommended in the arid region of Northwest China.
