Body condition score (BCS) is one of important symbols that to evaluate the dairy cowsquality and healthy, which is applied widely. However, this method has many limitations. Inrecent years, cow breeding is developing rapidly in China. Especially does the centralized-feeding,large-scale, informational dairy farm grow quickly, which is becoming the main producingmode gradually. Traditional cow body condition scoring has not been able to meet therequirements of modern farm fully and efficiently. By studying the relationship between thebody condition score (BCS) and body condition index, the aim is to find a fast and convenientway to estimate the body condition of dairy cow.192non-pregnancy Chinese Holstein cowswas chosen from dairy farm in Taian, body condition indexes was calculated. And the bodycondition score was taken by professional. Data was processed and analyzed by Excel andSPSS17.0. The results showed that non-pregnancy cow body condition index was correlatedwith the BCS (P<0.01) remarkably, r=0.732. According above, the relative formula betweenBCS X and body condition indexes Y was Y=157.505+9.964X. It was obtained that the bodycondition indexes range for different body condition according to BSC. Because this methodhas fast and efficient character, it could guide the practice in a certain degree. For the data isless, the system is still not perfect, and need to be improved gradually in practice. Theincidence of fatty liver has been increasing, especially in obese cows. It has more and moreadverse impact on production,It is very serious in perinatal period. Insulin resistance is thecharacter of fatty liver, and fatty liver is relative with obese. In such cases, the tail vein bloodwas collected, and glucose content, insulin content was measured. The insulin resistance indexwas calculated. The correction between insulin resistance indexes and body condition indexeswas analyzed. The aim was to find a way for predicting cows’ fatty liver and metabolicdisorder diseases. The results showed that: the correlation coefficient r between the cows’body condition index and insulin resistance index is0.503, correlation between body conditionand insulin resistance index was remarkable (p<0.05). It has a practical value in a certaindegree. The correlation between the insulin resistance and fatty liver needs to study on dairycow. Hope to have a continuous research on a higher level in the next phase.
