Creals all over the world are attacked by aphids. Sitobion avenae is reported to be thedominant species in most wheat regions of China. Apart from direct feeding damage (suckingplant sap), aphids act as vectors of BYDVs (Barley Yellow Dwarf Viruses) which causefurther quantitative and qualitative damages on cereals.In the project, an interaction system of Sitobion avenae–a high-quality bread winterwheat cv ‘Zhongyou206’, was chosen to study both in lab and wheat field for the impact ofaphid on the yield and qualitative characters.In the lab, through the resistant level evaluation, the fitness of cv ‘Zhongyou206’ to11geographic populations of S. avenae from the different wheat area in China were conducted.The result showed that the cultivar is suitable growing regions in Taian, Xinxiang, Jiangyou,the next are Langfang and Taiyuan.In the wheat fields of Langfang and Xinxiang, through transplanting aphids with3densities (1aphid,5aphids,10aphids) on per tiller wheat seedling caged with fine mesh cloth,to survey the aphid population dynamics, and after harvest, to measure the wheat kernelcharacters, quality traits and concentration of storage proteins. The results showed that therewas a significant positive correlation between both the total number of apterae and the peakaphid population with the initial densities of aphis (P<0.01), but a significant negativecorrelation between the valid grain number per spike (P<0.05) and the weigh of1000grainswith the initial densities of aphis (P<0.05).The results showed that aphid infested decrease the diameter of kernel, and the yield ofkernel protein is inverse correlation to the initial density of aphids; increase the constantsedimentation value of flour, prolong both formation and stabilization time of dough. Wefurther performed and improved the isolation technique of glutelin by SDS-PAGE and RP-HPLC. The result of RP-HPLC showed the aphid infested can increase the HMW-GS contentand proportion, particularly effect occurred in the content of Bx, By subunit.Our research provide an evidence of the growing area extension for cv Zhongyou206from aphid infested aspect, and a basement for it’s aphid resistant breeding.
