Studies On Container Plant Production Technology For Herbaceous Peony

Herbaceous peony(Paeonia lactiflora Pall.) is the traditional famous flowers in China and it is also a good land-scaping material. The research was the first large-scaleand systematic experiment on the container plant production technology of peony.26peony varieties that growing well in field were choosen as the experimental material for container culture. This article studied the adaptability of different varieties of peony in the container cultivation environment, combined with AHP to select the appropriate varieties; Then the key technology of peony container cultivation system was studied, including the influence of winter protection, removal of lateral buds, container volume and flowering fine-tuning on the growth and development of peony; What’s more, the root morphology, dry matter accumulation, chlorophyll, soluble sugar, soluble protein content, nutrient absorption and the flower bud differentiation of peony were studied to discuss the influencing factors of container gardening environment on the growth of peony, so as to set up the technical regulations for container plants of herbaceous peony. The results of the study are as follows:1. Using analytic hierarchy process (ahp) combined with container cultivation experiment, the comprehensive evaluation of26peony varieties were made. According to the the comprehensive values, these species were divided into four grades:the peony varieties that comprehensive rating of I level are best for container cultivation, including six varieties:Paeonia lactiflora ’Lian Tai’, Paeonia lactiflora’Hong Yan Zheng Hui’, Paeonia lactiflora ’Tisa Shan Hong Xing’, Paeonia lactiflora ’Zi Xia Jian Jin’, Paeonia lactiflora ’Gui Fei Cha Cui’ and Paeonia lactiflora ’Jin Xing Shan Shuo’ The peony varieties that comprehensive rating of II level are suitable for container growing, including10varieties:Paeonia lactiflora ’Qing Wen’, Paeonia lactiflora’ Zi Tan Xiang Yu’, Paeonia lactiflora ’Tie Gan Zi’, Paeonia lactiflora ’Da Fu Gui’, Paeonia lactiflora ’Lan Tian Piao Xiang’, Paeonia lactiflora’fo Guang Zhu Ying’, Paeonia lactiflora’Zi Rong Qiu’, Paeonia lactiflora’Fen Yu Lou’, Paeonia lactiflora’ Qing Tian Lan’ and Paeonia lactiflora’Duo Ye Zi’; The peony varieties that comprehensive rating of III level can be used for container cultivation, including four varieties:Paeonia lactiflora’Zi Feng Chao Yang’, Paeonia lactiflora’Lan Hai Bi Bo’, Paeonia lactiflora’Zi Fu Rong’ and Paeonia lactiflora ’Qiao Ling’; The peony varieties that comprehensive rating of IV level had poor adaptability and it is not suitable for container cultivation, including six varieties:Paeonia lactiflora ’Feng Yu Luo Jin Chi’, Paeonia lactiflora ’Bing Qing’, Paeonia lactiflora ’Chun Xiao’, Paeonia lactiflora ’Chun Xiao’, Paeonia lactiflora ’Hong Pan Tuo Jin’, Paeonia laetiflora ’Tao Hua Fei Xue’ and Paeonia lactiflora ’Zi Feng Yu’.2. Winter protection is required in the production peony container plant in Beijing. Using nylon bag full of matrix around the container plants, outer with plastic film as windbreak, then covering them with heat preservation quilt can meet the requirements of low temperature as well as guarantee the peony not affected by cold injury, what’s more, these materials are low cost, easy obtainment and the method is simple operation, making it suitable for popularization and application in the production of container plant.3. The container plant productions are mainly used for landscape, keeping the lateral buds is beneficial to the overall situation of flowering; In the spring, moved the peony container plants into the sunlight greenhouse for10days or so during stem elongation stage or stems and leaves growing period can avoid low temperature in spring, and then used in outdoor, can make Paeonia lactiflora’Da Fu Gui’ flowering for3to5days in advance, Paeonia lactiflora’Zi Fu Rong’ blooming for1to5days in advance. What’s more, moving the peony container plants into the sunlight greenhouse during stem elongation stage have obvious promoting effect to the growth and blooming of peony continer seedlings.4. If the vessel is too mall,it will cause obvious root restriction to the peony, which will reduce the plant height and crown breadth, decrease the root volume, reduce the leaf area, increase the compound leaf number, reduce the flowering rote, delay blossom. In the container plant production of peony, using4years peony pups, keeping6-10buds per plant, with blocks that32cm in diameter,28cm high, each filled in15L matrix, can meet the needs of the growth and development.5. The peony container plant cultivated with the technical regulation established by the results of this study grow better than the peony grown in the field. Container gardening can promote the volume increase, make it produce more fibrous root to form root mass.What’s more, container growing increase dry matter accumulation, promote the nutrients absorption and they were priority supply flowers.Container growinye promote chlorophyll synthetic, and it also can make promotion to the flower bud differentiation. Transplanting the container plants in spring, its survival rate is high and it can achieve good ornamental effect for the first year, which will meet the demand of landscape.
