Purpose:The objective of this essay is to research the clinical value of ultrasonic detection forcalcification in diagnosis of thyroid carcinoma, and to discuss the relationshipbetween the calcification and thyroid carcinoma. Methods:This article is based on an analysis of1553thyroid disease patients by retrospectivelyreviewing their clinical data of ultrasonography and pathology, who have receivedtreatment at the First Affiliated Hospital of Fujian Medical University between June2011and June2012.According to the analysis, it is much easier to investigate therelationship between calcification, micro-calcification, macro-calcification andperipheral calcification with thyroid carcinoma, the relationship between solitarynodule with calcification and multiple nodules with calcification with thyroidcarcinoma, and the relationship between calcification with thyroid carcinoma indifferent age groups. Results:The results show that the incidences of calcification and micro-calcification in benignthyroid patients (20.91%and12.38%respectively) were significantly lower than inthyroid carcinoma patients (P<0.05),which were38.02%and23.96%each.Meanwhile, the incidences of carcinoma in calcification patients andmicro-calcification patients were59.69%and61.17%, combination of calcificationand micro-calcification in patients as a standard of diagnosis of thyroid carcinoma hada higher specificity(79.09%and87.76%) and sensitivity(38.02%and31.51%). Theincidences of carcinoma in solitary nodules with calcification was65.92%while itwas44.61%in multiple nodule group, the incidence of carcinoma in solitary noduleswith calcification was significantly higher than that in multiple nodules(P<0.05). Theincidence of carcinoma in solitary nodules with micro-calcification was70.17%while in multiple nodule group it was43.48%. the incidence of carcinoma in solitarynodules with micro-calcification was significantly higher than that in multiplenodules(P<0.05). In45and younger age group, the incidence of carcinoma(69.46%)was higher than that in over44years group(54.25%)(P<0.05).Conclusions:In conclusion, it is obviously that the calcification and micro-calcification may help tolead patients to a high risk of thyroid carcinoma. Furthermore, the young patients, who were younger than45years old, with solitary nodules with calcification andmicro-calcification, were more likely to get thyroid carcinoma.
