In clinic, many disabling medical conditions are characterized by undesirablenerve activity, resulting in unwanted sensation or muscle activity. Therefore aneffective and quickly reversible means of nerve conduction block would have manyimportant clinical applications. Nerve conduction block can stop unwanted neuralpathway and then treat chronic pain of peripheral origin. Since nerve block andselective Nerve Activation method employing electrical current causes less damagedue to electro-chemical reactions and produces a quick-acting, quick-reversing nerveblock with a minimum of side effects. FES has been widely used for rehabilitationand therapy of patients with physiological damage of nerve and for studying theconstruction and function of nerve system, and has broadly applying foreground inclinic.Based on vivo animal experimental, using the sciatic nerve of live animals as theresearch object, this paper investigated the nerve block and selective nerve activationwith biphasic pulses, evaluated the influence of high frequency signals on the muscleswhich dominated by the corresponding nerves, and researched the selective nerveactivation orderliness changing different parameters, also Comparing the selectivenerve activation consequents in the different electrical stimulation modes. The main works in this thesis are as following:1) The nerve conduction block model based on the vivo animal wasdeveloped successfully. We analyzed the influence of high frequencysignals on the muscles which dominated by the corresponding nerves, and researched the nerve conduction block orderliness changing different parameters, verifying the blocking effect of high frequencysignal to the nerve of the live animals.2) The selective nerve activation model based on the vivo animal wasdeveloped. We researched the selective nerve activation orderlinesschanging different parameters, also obtained the best stimulationwaveform through comparing the selective nerve activation consequentsin the three electrical stimulation modes.3) The selective nerve activation model based on the vivo animal wasdeveloped. To compare the effect of low-frequency stimulation signaland high-frequency stimulation signals to nerve fibers with threebiphasic stimulation modes respectively using monopolar, bipolar andtripolar electrodes.4) The selective nerve activation model based on the vivo animal wasdeveloped. We used the symmetry biphasic pulses to selectivelystimulating nerve fibers effectively generated by bipolar electrodes.
