Phyllanthus emblica L.(Phyllanthus) of Euphorbiaceae, is mainly distributed in Yunnan,Guangdong, Guangxi, Fujian, which is rich in plant resources. Branches and leaves have thepotential development value as an inexhaustible resource, the Phyllanthus cotyledons is cold, tastecreatinine, and has been used widely in many local traditional medicinal systems, its actionsinclude treating eczema, boils, anal fistula, diarrhea and so on. In this article, the chemicalcomposition and biological activity of the branches and leaves of Phyllanthus emblica had beenstudied to draw Phyllanthus emblica effective active compositions. The chemical constituents of the ethanol extract in Phyllanthus emblica were systematicallyisolated with chromatographic techniques. The structures of the isolated compounds wereelucidated by their spectral data and chemical methods.18compounds including5the sterols (9,10,11,17,18),5flavonoids (5-8,15), the8phenolic compoundsand (1-4,12-14,16) wereisolated from the leaves of Phyllanthus emblica, and identified as: isocorilagin (1),Methyl-flavogallonate (2),3,4,3′-Tri-O-methylellagic Acid (3),3,4,8,9,10-Pentahydroxydibenzo[b,d]pyran-6-one (4), quercetin(5), quercetin-3-O-α-L-rhamnoside (6), naringenin-7-O-β-D-glucopyranside (7), Kaempferol-3-O-rhamnoside (8), lupeol (9), lup-20,29-en-3β,30-diol (10),betulin (11), gallic acid (12), methyl gallate (13), Ethyl gallate (14), Kaempferol (15), methylbrevifolin carboxylate (16), Daucosterol (17), β-sitosterol (18),(19). Compounds2,3,4,10,11,16have been isolated from Phyllanthus emblica for the first time;Compounds2,4,10,11havebeen isolated from the plants of Phyllanthus L. for the first time. This article also studied the cytotoxicity and anti-HSV-1virus activity of the isolatedcompounds. MTT assay was used to calculate the cell survival rate and the maximum non-toxicconcentration (TC0) of the compounds, to determine the cytotoxicity of the compounds. In thedrug antiviral pharmacodynamic study, CPE method was used to observe cytopathic effect. Incytotoxicity experiment, the TC0value of compounds1,8,9,11are more than500μM.Compounds1,9, J9showed relatively strong inhibitory activity with IC50values were62.5、62.5、31.25μM respectively.
