Objective:To explore the relationship between glycosylated hemoglobin A1c(HbA1c)and the final hematoma volume on the acute stage of intracerebralhemorrhage(ICH)above the tentorium of cerebellum; To provide clinical evidencefor the trials of blood glucose management on the acute stage of ICH.Methods:We collected consecutive cases on the acute stage of ICH above thetentorium of cerebellum, within7days of symptom and diagnosed by headcomputerized tomography(CT),onset at the neurological wards of the First AffiliatedHospital of Fujian Medical University from1January2009to31December2012.Detail clinical data, including the gender and age of patients, past medical history,HbA1c,fasting blood glucose(FBG),and the final hematoma volumes according tothe head CT were collected for this retrospective study.Using the statistical softwareSPSS (18.0) statistical analysis, single factor analysis and multivariate logisticregression analysis were done to analysis the relationship between these factors andthe final hematoma volume.Multivariate analysis using logistic regression analysis, stepwise forward method,P <0.05.Results:We included134patients,the mean age was61.26±11.91years;Ninety-fourpatients were men, forty patients were women;Hypertension was present in89of134patients;Diabetes mellitus was present in23of134patients;Ninety-seven Patientswere with lobar location,twenty-seven with basal ganglia, other ten with thalamus;HbA1c was range from4.6%to13.2%;The FBG was range from3.89mmol/L to17.75mmol/L;The final hematoma volume was range from0.30ml to56.10ml.Single factor analysis screened out such factors as HbA1c(P=0.009)、age(P=0.007)、diabetes mellitus(P=0.049)and hematoma location(P=0.003)that significantly different influence the final hematoma volume. For multivariate stepwise logistic regression analysis, two factors,HbA1c<6.5%and age≤60y,reduced the risk of larger final hematoma volume.Conclusions:1.HbA1c was an independent risk factor for the final hematoma volumeof ICH above the tentorium of cerebellum;2.Age was an independent risk factor forthe final hematoma volume of ICH above the tentorium of cerebellum;3.It’s necess-ary to further carry out randomized controlled trials of larger sample size to evaluateand intervent the influence factors related to the final hematoma volume of ICH..
