Objective:To evaluate Helicobacter pylori antibiotics resistance to clarithromycinand metronidazole in Fuzhou. Methods: A total of60H.pylori strains isolated from60subjects who hadundergone upper gastrointestinal endoscopy in Fujian Province Hospital from2012.11to2013.01were collected and examined by Etest method for antibiotics susceptibility. Results: The resistance rates to clarithromycin and metronidazole were40%(24/60)and78.33%(47/60),respectively.35%(21/60)of the strains showed multipleresistance to clarithromycin and metronidazole. The secondary resistance rates weremuch higher than primary rates to the two antibiotics,with76%(19/25)vs14.29%(5/35),94.59%(35/37)vs52.17%(12/23),respectively.There were no correlationsbetween clarithromycin resistance and gender, age or endoscopy diagnosis. Femaleresistance rates to metronidazole was much higher than male, while there were noassociation of resistant H.pylori strains to age and endoscopy diagnosis. Conclusion: The prevalence of H.pylori resistance to clarithromycin andmetronidazole in Fuzhou is high.Standard triple therapy contains Clarithromycin and(or)metronidazole should not be taken without antibiotics susceptibility test forH.pylori eradication treatment.
