ObjectiveTo investigate the change of morphology and the expression of Na+-k+-ATPaseof olfactory mucosal in experimental sinusitis.Methodsfifty New Zealand White rabbits will be divided into different groups according tothe duration of inflammation. Other groups will also be divided according to differenttimes after operation. Pathologic change and ATPaes variation are observed in differentgroups. The change of Na+-K+-ATPase is measured by chromatometry. The site andrelative quantification are observed by cytochemistry transmission electro-microscope.ResultIn epithelium layer cilia shedding increased, inflammative cellular infiltrationenhanced, squamous epithelium metaplasia and epithelia necrosis during inflammatoryprocess. In lamina propria glands metaplasia and decreased, the fibrosis is augment-al.After operation the epithelium layer and lamina propria will regenerate in differentextent.Change of Na+-K+-ATPase is not significant between normal and after operationgroups(P>0.05),but both of them compare with infected group show the difference aresignificant(P﹤0.05). When inflammation is severe, the granule of Na+-K+-ATPase willchange smaller, lighter even disappear. When inflammation is alleviated, the granule ofNa+-K+-ATPase will change bigger and darker.ConclusionThe expression of Na+-K+-ATPase in olfactory mucosal reduce in experimentalSinusitis, which is probably one of the reasons for dysosmia.
