Objetive: To investigate the clinical efficacy of the sodium hyanuronate injection inthe treatment of anterior temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disc displacement, to find aneffctive and convenient method in treating the diseases, and to provide the technicalguidance and basis for clinical widely used of sodium hyanuronate. Methods: Fifty cases with anterior TMJ disc displacement with reduction or withoutreduction were diagnosed by the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) before processing, and the organic joint diseases were ruled out by applying of imaging methods. All thecases were treated with inferior articular cavity lavage of2%lidocaine and injection ofsodium hyaluronate. The treatment was performed for three times in every two weeks. And the clinical features were evaluated before the treatment, after every injection and inthe followed-up three months. Helkimo analysis was also applied to evaluate the functionof TMJ before and after the treatment. Results: It was distinct in the clinical efficacy of the fifty patients in the application ofsodium hyaluronate injection. Compared to untreatment, the clinical symptoms andHelkimo index of all the cases had been improved significantly after every treatment (P<0.05), The Helkimo index gradually decreased with the prolongation of treatment, Butthere was no statistical difference of Helkimo index and clinical efficacy among the casesbetween the third injection and the post-treatment3m (P>0.05).Conclusion: It has approving and stable clinical efficacy in the patients of the inferiorarticular cavity with application of sodium hyaluronate, It suggested that the inferiorarticular cavity injection of sodium hyaluronate might be an effective therapy for anteriorTMJ disc displacement with or without reduction. It is not only provided the evidence for applying the sodium hyaluronate in the anterior TMJ disc, but also to a certain extentprovided the reference for clinical physicians in choosing the schedule of treatment.
