Objective:Laparoscopic liver resection has been regarded as a safe and effective approach to the management of liver diseases. However, studies of outcomes regarding tumor recurrence and patient survival in the comparison with open operation are still limited. Left hepatectomy is a kind of operating methods commonly in our hospital. The aim of this study was to evaluate the outcome of laparoscopic liver resection versus open liver resection in the treatment of malignancy liver turner in the past three years.Patients and Methods:Between January2010and December2012,11patients accepted the laparoscopic left hepatectomy treating malignancy liver turner, including7patients with hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC). Case-matched control patients(n=19) who received open liver resection for liver tumor were included for comparison. Patients were matched in term of cancer stage, tumor size, immediate operation outcomes, operation morbidity, disease-free survival, and overall survival were compared between groups. Results:With the laparoscopic group compared with the open resection group, operation time was182.18minutes versus240.78minutes (P=0.032), blood loss was686.36ml versus678.94ml (p=0.483), hospital stay was12.91versus16.04days (p=0.047), disease-free survival was10.09months versus9.88months (p>0.05), overall survival was12.09months versus14.52months (p>0.05).Conclusion:Laparoscopic left hepatectomy for malignancy tumor is associated with less operation time, less blood loss, and shorter hospital stay with no compromise in survival...
