| Objective:To indentify the risks and preventions of postoperative complications for patients over75years old with gastric cancerMethods:We retrospectively analyzed the337patients who was firstly underwent gastrectomy for gastric cancer between January2009and December2009.An analysis was used to identify the risk of preoperative comorbidities and postoperative complications in patients. Among them,40patients were over75years, the other297patients (≤75years old) were used as a control group. Further more, the patients were divided into two groups to evaluate the complications incidence. One is between65and75, the other is over75years.Results:Medical comorbidities in elderly group were significantly different, especially the incidence of cardiopulmonary disease and hypoproteinemia. Meanwhile, the pulmonary infection (22.5%to9.43%, P<0.05) and arrhythmia (7.50%to1.01%, P<0.05) were significantly more common in elderly group than in patients under75years. Postoperative complications were seen no significantly difference between the65≤,<75and≥75years.Conclusion:Age is not an independent risk factor for postoperative complications. The postoperative cardiopulmonary complication had some relationship with or without coexist cardiopulmonary diseases. The elderly patients have more preoperative comorbidities, which will increase the risk of operative complications following gastrectomy. To improve the patients’ quality of life, radical gastrectomy can be used under the effective perioperative consultation. |
