BackgroundDepression is one of the disorders of psychiatric common, because the elderly living ability, social activity and chronic somatic disease prone to loneliness, inferiority feelings, these negative emotions makes it prone to depression, but because the symptoms are not typical, covered by often many somatic symptoms, led to the identification of depression in the elderly family, social and medical personnel rate is low, and often misdiagnosed as other diseases, or is considered to be the normal performance of aging, and did not get enough attention. The old man once the diagnosis of depression, should be timely and appropriate treatment, otherwise it will lead to bad results. Depression in the elderly with drug therapy combined with psychological intervention. Many drugs for the treatment of depression, mirtazapine is a tetracyclic piperazine compounds, with norepinephrine and serotonin dual inhibition of5-antidepressants. In addition, new type of antidepressant mirtazapine is only a strong H1receptor antagonist action of antidepressants, helps to calm and increase appetite, reduce nocturnal awakenings and longer total sleep time. The drug was well tolerated, with almost no anticholinergic effects, the therapeutic dose not influence on the cardiovascular system. Many studies show, mirtazapine affirmed in elderly patients with curative effect, good security, and even had a good safety and tolerability in patients aged0years>8. Since the establishment of the change of medical model and to the health of the people as the center of the overall concept of treatment, domestic and foreign research related to the deepening of senile depression psychological intervention. Reminiscence therapy is the psychological intervention is a simple, through the review of past events, emotions, and thoughts, to help people increase happiness, improve the quality of life and the ability to adapt to the environment. The theory foundation treatment continued memories are Erikson psychosocial development theory and Atchley. Research confirms, use of reminiscence therapy can effectively prevent or reduce the depressive symptoms, enhance their self-esteem, help to depression in elderly people to deal with the crisis, the lost and life changes, and improve life satisfaction and quality of life.ObjectiveTo investigate curative effect of the treatment of combined memories mirtazapine in the treatment of elderly depression, and on cognitive function, social function.Methods80elderly patients with depression were randomly divided into two groups (40cases in each group):mirtazapine group and mirtazapine combined with reminiscence group. The mirtazapine group received oral mirtazapine and health education, while the mirtazapine combined with reminiscence group accepted additional reminiscence therapy for6weeks. Application of HAMD-24scale, MADRS scale before and after treatment of depressive symptoms to improve the situation, the application of PSP scale before and after treatment in the recovery of social function. ResultsThe time of occurrence of improvement in HAMD-24scoring reduced to2weeks in the mirtazapine combined with reminiscence group. After8weeks of treatment, recall therapy combined with mirtazapine group HAMD-24score, MADRS score and symptoms better than mirtazapine group, PSP score increase degree is greater than single use of mirtazapine group.Conclusionsmirtazapine is safe and effective in the treatment of depression in the elderly, reminiscence therapy combined with mirtazapine in treatment of elderly depression fast onset of action, efficacy is better than the single mirtazapine, contribute to the interpersonal communication, social function recovery, is worthy of promotion.
