Objective: To study the expression level of N-myc downstream-regulatedgene-2(NDRG2) protein in esophageal adenocarcinoma tissues and its clinical pathologicsignificances.Methods: The expression level and distribution of NDRG2in tissues from46cases ofesophageal tissues(Including33cases of esophageal adenocarcinoma tissues and13casesof mild chronic esophagitis tissues) were detected by immunohistochemical staining. Therelationships between NDRG2and various clinical parameters including age, gender,staging and metastasis were statistically analyzed.Results: The expression level of NDRG2protein in esophageal adenocarcinoma tissueswas significantly lower than that in mild chronic esophagitis tissues:In esophagealadenocarinoma tissues, the positive rate was36.3%;In13cases of mild chronicesophagitis tissues, the positive rate was76.9%.At the same time, NDRG2protein ininstallments late and transfer cases show a lower expression,both of the differences werestatistically significant (P<0.05). By standard clinical staging of the International UnionAgainst Cancer (UICC)2009:Ⅰ~Ⅱpatients NDRG2protein positive expression rate was63.6%,Ⅲ~Ⅳpatients NDRG2protein expression was22.7%. NDRG2protein expressionwas significantly lower in patients with later clinical stage, differences havesignificant(P=0.019). With lymph node and distant metastasis cases NDRG2proteinpositive expression rate was20.8%, Significantly lower than patients without lymph nodeand distant metastasis which positive expression rate was77.8%, the difference wassignificant(P=0.005).In terms of gender and age,differences of NDRG2protein positiveexpression rate is not found yet.Conclusion: The low expression level of NDRG2in esophageal adenocarcinomatissues may play a certain role in tumor infiltration and metastasis. Detection of NDRG2protein expression of the cases could help determine the biological behavior of esophagealadenocarcinoma and clinical prognostic significance, NDRG2whether as a prognostic indicator of clinical value in esophageal adenocarcinoma needs further study.
